SEND 3 Partnership Working: Child, Parent, Others

Course Aim: To understand the role of partnership working within SEND. 

Course Information: This session will support partnership working by exploring the challenges that may be encountered and how these can be overcome. It will look at the rights of the child to be involved in their own learning and development; the reasons why it is vital that parents are included fully in their child’s early learning experiences and how to support others (practitioners in the setting and outside agencies) in communicating effectively to ensure all children develop to the best of their abilities. This course has been developed with support from the SureStart SEND training materials.

Course objectives:

  • Define speech, language, communication (SLC) and SLC needs.
  • Identify at least 3 ways that practitioners can communicate more effectively with children & others.
  • Identify at least 3 ways children’s views and preferences can be taken into account.
  • Summarise the statutory assessment process.
  • Explain at least 2 ways to work in partnership with parents and outside agencies.
  • Identify at least 3 ways to overcome barriers to communication.

Suitable For:  Early Years SENDCOs and all those interested in supporting young children with special needs.
