SEN 6: Inclusion in practice: techniques and policy

A series of linked sessions that can be accessed separately or as a series.  

SUITABLE FOR: Early Years SENCOs and all those interested in supporting young children with special needs.

COURSE INFORMATION: This session will explore different aspects of inclusive practice through activities and case studies to share knowledge and gain new ideas. Techniques for calming and   distracting; developing social and emotional skills and encouraging play will be explored and supported through activities and reflective discussions. The role of the SENCo and SEN policy will be linked to effective inclusive setting practice. This course has been developed with support from the SureStart SEN training materials.

Course objectives:

· Identify and know when to use at least 3 calming and distraction techniques

· Know how to support the development of social skills for all children

· Know the characteristics of effective learning promote inclusive play activities

· Know how to support emotional development for all children

· List the main responsibilities of setting SENCo

· Know the requirements of setting SEN/Inclusion policies

COURSE AIM: To understand different techniques to support children’s development  and the requirement of the SEN policy.
